"“I Was Just Trolling” : How Social Media Use Can Become Problematic"

DESCRIPTION: Over 93% of all internet users use social media. This equates to roughly 4.7 billion people. While there are many positive uses of social media, some feel that the negative aspects of it outweigh the positive ones. 88% of social media-using teens say that they have seen something mean or cruel directed at a person through social media. Cyberbullying can have many detrimental effects on a person. Cyberbullying and social media addiction can be significant barriers for many young people. This workshop will discuss the positives and negatives of social media, the signs and symptoms of social media addiction, and state strategies to make us less dependent on these online social networks.

OBJECTIVES:
1. Name several negative effects that social media use can have on a person.
2. Discuss the pitfalls of social media addiction.
3. State ways to moderate social media use to a healthier level.
